Hastings Kitchen Live

The managing director of Northern Ireland’s leading hotel group, Hastings Hotels, is urging people to support local food producers to ensure the province continues to offer high quality, local produce.

Such is the dedication of the family-owned hotel group in supporting local producers, that where possible, they use local produce in all of its six hotels across Northern Ireland.

Howard Hastings, managing director of Hastings Hotels says, “Food provenance is of major importance to us as a group and is why we are dedicated to supporting local producers and providing our customers with the best produce available, enabling our chefs to prepare and create the most delicious dishes in our kitchens.”

To showcase the skills of the chefs at Hastings Hotels, increase the interest of having a career as a chef, in addition to showcasing some of the dishes on the menus that are made using the finest local produce, the hotel group is hosting Hastings Kitchen Live, a dedicated food event for industry representatives, local colleges and media in The Stormont Hotel, compered by BBC Radio Ulster’s Paula McIntyre.

“There is fantastic choice right on our doorstep and we believe it is vital to support local food producers to ensure this choice remains. Where possible, all of our meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, dairy produce and bread is locally sourced and we use small, artisan producers who are as passionate as we are about keeping food traditions alive.

“A few examples to whet the appetite of what is available across our six hotels include tomatoes grown in Drumbeg by Bob Colhoun, Comber potatoes, Portavogie prawns, Glenarm Organic Shorthorn from Glenarm Estate and certified Northern Irish Hereford beef from Hannan Meats in Co Armagh,” Howard added.

“I hope our passion for great food is obvious to our customers and being awarded the prestigious Good Food Ireland Newcomer of the Year 2011 award we feel is a testament to our dedication.

“Northern Ireland has a proud heritage of farming and fishing, resulting in an abundance of sensational produce and at Hastings Hotels we continually strive to give our guests a true taste of this in everything we serve,” he concluded.
