“Please, sir, I want some more.”
The Dickens 2012 NI Festival was launched at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, celebrating the bicentenary of Charles Dickens. The festival, which will span the entire year, kicked off with a full Dickensian Choir and readings from “Oliver Twist” courtesy of the Belfast Pickwick Players.
Dickens himself visited the Ulster Hall numerous times to do readings throughout his literary career. The festival is partnered with Barnardo’s NI and the charity director stressed the link between Dicken’s own charity spirit and the aims of Barnardo’s. Michelle McIlveen MLA, chair of the Culture Arts and Leisure committee also joined in on the festivities highlighting the writer’s influence.
