Tri – Nations’ Sailing Event

Congratulations to Grosvenor Grammar School pupil Tom Purdon, Form 3, who was chosen to represent Northern Ireland at the prestigious ‘Tri Nations’ Sailing Event’.
The competition, held in Pwllheli, North Wales, featured teams of six competitors each from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
With competition on the Saturday cancelled due to a lack of wind, the overall outcome of the contest rested solely on the results of Sunday’s racing, in which competitors faced extreme winds and near sub – zero temperatures. In the event, the Northern Irish team of which Tom was part was unlucky to be edged out of second position by a margin of just 4 points by their Scottish rivals.
Nevertheless, Tom can take consolation from the fact that he represented his school and country with distinction throughout the event.
