U105 doubles its market share and listening hours

U105 has achieved its highest ever market share and listening hours since it launched in 2005, according to industry figures released by RAJAR (1 February). The official figures cover listening between June and December 2011.
U105 reached 211,000 people for this quarter, an increase of 51% year on year; with listening hours up to their highest ever 2.44 million per week and market share now at a record 13.7%.
Peter McVerry, Station Manager, U105 said: “I’m delighted that we have grown the audience year on year in what is always a difficult quarter for local radio. Our investment in personalities, quality content and first class music are hitting the right note with existing and new listeners. We look forward to building on this success in 2012 and continuing to deliver for our listeners, sponsors and advertisers.
“From a standing start in 2005 we now have three times the listening hours and market share of Citybeat* in our area which is a tremendous achievement for the team here.”
