UU Graduate Fashion Show

Students from Ulster University’s Textile Art, Fashion and Design course, showcased their collections at the much anticipated end of year graduate fashion show. St Anne’s Cathedral made for a stunning venue as hundreds of spectators gathered down the aisles to see the creative and professional work by the students. The event was hosted by Cathy Martin and attended by fashionistas who has the chance to see a range of styles in clothing, in a range of techniques, including knit, embroidery and weave.

Could You Be The Next Miss NI?

Aspiring beauty queens from Northern Ireland are encouraged to join the quest for the 2018 Insanity Tan Miss Northern Ireland. The first heat of the contest will take place at Tipsy Bird, Belfast on Thursday 1st March and the second heat of the contest will take place at Spice, Templepatrick on Sunday 4th March.

The event, which is organised by top modelling agency ACA Models, seeks ambitious young women aged between 17 and 24 to take over the crown from current Miss Northern Ireland, Anna Henry. There are 13 regional heats scheduled to take place across Northern Ireland, including Antrim, Strabane, Banbridge, Cookstown, Ballymena, Portstewart, Maghera, Dungannon, Bangor, Enniskillen and L’Derry. Two finalists from each heat will be chosen to take part in the grand finale at the historic Europa Hotel, Belfast on 28th May, 2018. The glamorous black tie event will be hosted by the former Miss Northern Ireland and television presenter Zoe Salmon.

Contest organiser Alison Clarke said, “We are looking forward to meeting lots of new talent at the upcoming regional heats. Our talent scouts have been out and about over the last few weeks and, so far, we have had great response.”

The contest is about more than just superficial beauty; it’s about finding talented young women, who will be judged not only on their appearance but also on their personality, poise, presence and intelligence. The winner will become an ambassador for Northern Ireland and will be given support and guidance throughout her reign and beyond. Over the year’s they have nurtured many young women who have gone on to achieve high profile careers in modelling, the media and business. The contest really is an opportunity of a life time!

Current title holder Anna Henry said, “Being crowned Miss Northern Ireland 2017 was a watershed event in my life. From getting to wear the most beautiful crown, to being an ambassador for the NI Children’s Hospice and representing Northern Ireland on a world stage in China, it has all been incredible.”

“Spending 5 weeks in China with 120 beautiful, caring and intelligent ladies from all across the world was a once in a lifetime experience. It was outstanding to live in the Chinese culture! Being Miss Northern Ireland, I really do appreciate that regardless of our very small country, we have so much to offer and the contest is something I’m very proud to be associated with.”

Taking inspiration from the most festive and celebrated time of the year, the range encompasses elegant basics alongside key trend pieces and will be available at unbeatable prices, making it accessible and affordable for women this Christmas.

The highly anticipated second esmara by Heidi Klum and Lidl fashion collaboration features stylish everyday wardrobe staples, inspired by the glamour of the party season. The #LETSCELEBRATE collection combines warm winter colours and chic fabrics such as velvet, satin, sequins, and faux fur, creating a head-to-toe festive wardrobe. West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK’S 24th Season

The twenty fourth season of West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK commences this October. This iconic event is happening over four days from the 26th-29th at its new home, St Anne’s Cathedral. Back this year, bigger and better, the show will feature longer runways, more stylish backdrops and an impressive list of designers from high street stores such as Topshop to pieces by designer Julien McDonald.

Director, Cathy Martin wants the event to demonstrate “a true example of fashion theatre.” Guests will be given the opportunity to engage with the fashion first hand. Not be missed, William Morris eyewear will be seeking out the best dressed guests from their ‘specs appeal’ pop up. Also at the event will be a variety of beauty, boutique and designer pop ups who will be present for guest’s enjoyment before and after the main catwalk shows on the 26th &27th October.

L’Oreal Colour Trophy winner, Lee Stinton alongside renowned make up artist Paddy McGurgan will lead the creative direction of the event. The pair will be speaking at the flagship ‘Style Sunday’ event on the 29th at James Street South. The luncheon will close FASHIONWEEK and round off a month activities by Action Cancer for breast cancer awareness month. The event will  showcase stylist top picks as well as a hair and makeup trend masterclass and a gift and cocktail on arrival.The official hashtag of the event will be #WCCStyleSquad allowing audiences to interact with the brands.

Local Hairdresser Confirmed as Finalist in British Hairdressing Awards 2017

Local Hairdresser, Julian Dalrymple has been confirmed as a finalist in this year’s ‘British Hairdressing Awards.’ The hair stylist from ‘The Sitting Room Hairdresser’ in Ballymena is one of 98 hairdressers from across the U.K. who has made it to the final. The British Hairdressing Awards attracts hundreds of entries from hair stylists who summit a photographic collection to showcase their artistic flair and technical skill.

Now in it’s fourth decade, the awards hosted by Hair Journal International and sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, continue to recognise the creative and diverse talents of hairdressing throughout the U.K. The awards have launched the careers of a number of household hairdressing names such as, Anthony Mascolo, TONI&GUY creative director Sacha Mascolo- Tarbuck and TV favourites Lisa Shepherd and Andrew Barton.

This year, The Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year Category seeks to recognise the most inspiring stylist within the region. This prestigious award will put the winning stylist on the map while recognising them as a creative leader within the Northern Irish hairdressing industry.

The winner of each category including ‘The Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year and the prized ‘British Hairdresser of the Year’ will be announced at The British Hairdressing Awards ceremony which takes place on Monday 27th November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, a JW Marriott Hotel in London.

The Best Dressed Ladies at Down Royal

Ladies in their brightest finery flocked to Down Royal this month where one Victoria Corr from Galbally, County Tyrone dressed her way to Miami and a Caribbean cruise after receiving the accolade of Magners Best Dressed in a red bell sleeved pencil dress and hat by Laura O’Hanlon Millinery.

Competition was fierce at this, one the most stylish events in Ireland’s racing calendar. Innovative headpieces, glamorous heels and brave colours paraded around the track of oblivious horses in blinkers. The judges however; Rebecca McKinney, Pete Snodden, Diane McStay, Julia Galbraith, Magners brand manager and Ulster Tatler’s Nuala Meenehan had their eyes peeled in scouting the very best of the day’s style which was copious.

Ulster Tatler’s own judge was among those dressing to impress, matching a vintage pillar box hat in marigold to her vintage floral tea dress and bag by Chanel. Her hat, as many other hats on the day, celebrated small Irish designers, provided by Laura McPolin at the Walk in Wardrobe Banbridge.
