Local women's groups are being invited to take part in a new citizenship awareness initiative developed by Derry City Council's Community Relations Section.

The 'Do You Get the Guildhall?' initiative offers participants the opportunity to visit to the Guildhall and gain a deeper understanding about what Derry City Council does.

The three-hour session includes a mock 'rates debate' where participants learn about how council makes decisions, a tour of the Guildhall and a chance to interview a local politician about whatever issues are of interest to the participants.

The initiative has hitherto mainly been targeted at youth groups and schools but the Council's community relations officers are keen to pilot the programme with women's groups to see how it works with adults.
